Project Teardrop

A passion project that started in highschool and received many updates throughout my degree. The teardrop camper is a queen sized bed with a kitchen and lots of storage on wheels. Ideal for long road trips with friends, it has travelled to the most northern and southern points of Aotearoa and pretty much everywhere in between.

The Build

Plans

Plans were purchased from Chesapeake Lightcraft. They were then transfered to the ply wood before being cut out with a jig saw finished by hand plane.
Construction

The shell is a stitch and glue technique commonly used in boat building. Int consists of internal fibreglass seams 4mm marine ply and a layer of fibreglass.
Trailer

I modified an old garden trailer bought for 40 nzd. It has storage for camping equipment, food and a surfboard.
Further upgrades

Each year I added new features including an updated kitchen, lighting, fans and internal insulation.
Storage Shed

Before leaving the county I made a shelter. It was made entirely from selvaged building materials, is designed for disassembly and incorporated a Kowhai tree as a post.

The Shed

Made from materials acquired for free off marketplace and found under the house. The shed was an exercise in designing with what I had on hand. The posts are made from 2x4s bolted together, plus the trunk of the kowhai tree. Homemade tree lugs allow the beam to be attached to the tree in the least invasive way possible. Lashing the corner gives slack to the system and allows the tree to sway as it normally would without causing damage.
