Makita Trap

Makita t550 is a self-resetting trap designed to help Aotearoa become predator free by 2050. An estimated 25 million native birds are killed by introduced predators every year. Aotearoa has a well-established trapping community but the current tools struggle to completely eradicate pests from an area. This trap is designed to catch the final rodents that continuously evade traditional traps. It primarily targets small to medium sized rodents like rats and stoats. By increasing the trapping area, the interaction rates go up and chances of catching a rodent increase. (cacophony project) The trap has in built sensors making it fully automated while also protecting against accidental trapping of native birds or other animals.
